As a Level 2 Technician, you will transition from foundational skills to hands-on field leadership, advanced troubleshooting, and system diagnostics. You will work independently, mentor Level 1 Technicians, and contribute to field service excellence. This role is a key step toward technical mastery and career progression.
Key Responsibilities
System Service & Technical Operations
- Perform intermediate-level troubleshooting and diagnostics on inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), PCS (Power Conversion Systems), and EV chargers.
- Conduct firmware updates, inverter resets, and system configuration adjustments.
- Diagnose and correct arc faults, ground faults, and insulation resistance issues.
- Assist in performing breaker coordination, power factor correction, and load balancing.
- Work with SCADA monitoring platforms to assess system health and ensure remote connectivity functionality.
Advanced Electrical Testing & Safety Compliance
- Perform insulation resistance testing, IV curve tracing, and power quality analysis.
- Implement NFPA 70E-compliant work practices, including arc flash protection and shock hazard mitigation.
- Utilize multimeters, thermal cameras, and advanced electrical diagnostic tools to assess system performance.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC (National Electrical Code), and manufacturer standards.
Mentorship & Team Leadership
- Serve as a mentor for Level 1 Technicians, assisting with training and skill development.
- Guide junior technicians in interpreting schematics, performing safe electrical work, and improving troubleshooting skills.
- Provide on-site safety leadership, ensuring proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and safe work procedures.
- Assist supervisors in work planning, job site coordination, and technician task assignments.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete detailed service reports, documenting findings, test results, and corrective actions.
- Provide accurate updates to supervisors, site managers, and clients regarding service activities.
- Maintain organized records of system configurations, firmware updates, and maintenance history.
Required Certifications & Training
- High School Diploma/GED (or equivalent technical education)
- OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training (must be completed within 30 days)
- NFPA 70E Intermediate Electrical Safety Certification
- Completion of Level 1 Technician training requirements
- Enrollment in the next available electrical apprenticeship program
- First Aid & CPR Certification
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have, but Not Required)
- NABCEP PV Associate Certification
- Basic knowledge of SCADA, networking (RS-485, Modbus, TCP/IP), and inverter communication
- Forklift and aerial lift certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with three-phase electrical systems and grounding principles
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting PV, BESS, or EV charging systems
Bonus Qualifications (Highly Valued, but Not Required)
- NABCEP PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist (PVCMS) Certification
- EVITP (Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program) Certification
- Certified Energy Storage Installation Professional (ESIP)
- Experience working with Schweitzer Labs SEL relay testing and system protection
- Advanced understanding of power electronics and battery storage management systems
